Join K-12 teachers from across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia to explore the many connections between STEAM and the history of George Washington's Mount Vernon through interactive activities.

Teachers who register must be planning to teach in a formal K-12 school environment in the greater Washington D.C. area for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year.

Explore Revolutionary War Spy Techniques

Participate in hands-on activities, analyze primary sources, explore digital resources, and discuss how to bring the STEAM work behind spying during the revolutionary era to your classrooms. 

Learn about printing-related topics like:

  • Practice your invisible ink skills in the Revolutionary War Encampment
  • Learn how to use book and wheel ciphers 
  • Hear about how some spies used laundry to send secret messages

Bring Historical Printing & STEAM Concepts to Your Classroom

Gain confidence in integrating history and STEAM concepts in an interdisciplinary context to support student learning while building a network of local peers. 

Attend with a teaching partner or collaborative team to design learning experiences to take back to your classroom, department, grade level, and/or school.

Registration Details

Who can register?

  • Teachers must plan to teach in a K-12 formal school setting in the greater Washington, D.C. area for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year.
  • You may only sign up for ONE fall workshop (September - Spies; November - Crossing the Delaware) at this time.
  • Priority will be given to teachers and/or coordinators working in Title 1 schools.
  • We highly recommend attending with a teaching partner or collaborative team.
  • Each workshop is limited to 30 teachers.
  • A waitlist will be made available after registration meets full capacity.
