Mount Vernon is open 365 days a year, including holidays.
April through October: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.*
November through March: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.*
*The museum is open to guests for 30 minutes after closing. The Education Center is closed for an extensive rebuild and will reopen in 2026.
The Shops at Mount Vernon
April through October: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
November through March: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The Shops at Mount Vernon is closed on December 25.

Parking
Visitor parking is always free at Mount Vernon.
- Please do not leave valuables in your vehicle.
- All parking is available on a first come, first served basis.
- You park at your own risk.
There are parking lots on the east and west sides of the George Washington Memorial Parkway as you approach the entrance.
There are oversized parking spots in the back part of the East Parking Lot. Please note this lot fills up quickly and turns will be tight.
Motor Coaches are welcome to park in the Bus Lane, located on Route 235 S (across from the post office.)
Public Transportation
- Take Metrorail's Yellow Line to Huntington Station.
- Exit at the lower level of the station (Huntington Avenue) to catch a Fairfax Connector bus to Mount Vernon.
- Board the Fairfax Connector Bus #101, the Fort Hunt Line, for a 20-minute trip to Mount Vernon's entrance gate.
Visit by Bike, Boat or Bus
Visit by Bike
Hop on a bike and ride to or from Mount Vernon on the scenic Mount Vernon Trail.
Bike rentals are available in Old Town, Alexandria and at Mount Vernon.
Visit by Boat
