The application deadline for teachers from Alabama, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, AND Pennsylvania has been extended through April 1, 2015

Application Requirements

  • A resume listing relevant education, teaching history, leadership roles held, previous professional development, student engagement, and examples of innovative teaching practices
  • A personal essay (no more than 750 words) addressing the following questions:
    • Why do you want to attend the George Washington Teacher Institute? 
    • How is the subject of George Washington relevant to your teaching? 
    • How will you take what you've learned and make an impact in your learning communities (with students, colleagues, online, etc.)?
  • Two letters of support addressing your skill, ability, and experience as a teacher and indicating support for the responsibilities outlined in the Participant Obligation Pledge.
    • One letter should be from the principal or superintendent of the school/district where you are currently employed.
    • One letter from a colleague
