1905

Prince Louis of Battenberg (1854–1921) was a British naval officer of German origin who rose to become First Sea Lord, the professional head of the Royal Navy, in 1912. He visited Mount Vernon in 1905.

Of this visit, Colonel Dodge recalled: “His visit was so hastily arranged that I had not time to provide the customary tree. In reply to my apologies for this omission, he said, “I much appreciate your kind suggestion but feel I have not sufficient rank for that great privilege.”
