Prince Arthur

1869

Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn (1850–1942), was Queen Victoria’s third son, a distinguished British Army officer, and the only royal to serve as Governor General of Canada. Known for his lifelong dedication to public and military service across the British Empire, he was the last surviving son of Queen Victoria.

His visit to Mount Vernon is briefly described by Harrison Howell Dodge, Mount Vernon's long-time superintendent, his 1932 book Mount Vernon, its owner and its story:

In 1869, Prince Arthur, Queen Victoria's youngest son, now Duke of Connaught, made [us] a visit.
