Twist, Cross & Create Your Own Lace Fish

Guided by experts from the Chesapeake Region Lace Guild, children will learn the two essential moves of bobbin lacemaking: the cross and the twist.

Using these techniques, they will create a colorful fish complete with a sparkling, beaded eye. Kids can choose their own colors, so every fish is as unique as its maker.

This beginner-friendly project has launched countless lacemakers on their first lace adventure, and no experience is needed. All supplies will be provided.

See Original Lace from George Washington’s Time

Lace wasn't just pretty; it was a sign of status in Washington's time.

Our Chief Curator of Fine and Decorative Arts, Amanda Isaac, will share the story of Washington's ties to lace and bring out a few special pieces from the Washington Library's collection for a rare up-close look.
