Explore Art History at the First President's Home
Take a Tour of Mount Vernon's Historic Collections
Explore Mount Vernon's historic collections in the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and have a guided discussion about some of the paintings found only on the estate.
During the tour, identify symbolism and visual clues to gain a better understanding of what life was like in the 18th century.
Craft & Take Home Your Own Artwork
Apply what you learned during the program in an outdoor en plein air watercolor activity as you create your own painting. A facilitator will explain basic watercolor techniques and share expert tips and tricks.
Observe the Mount Vernon landscape directly while you paint and be inspired by history, nature, and place. When you're done, take home your own watercolor palette.
These skills support future art-making and encourage more thoughtful observation in museums and everyday life.
