Mount Vernon welcomes homeschooling families to discover the 18th century by exploring the Farm at Mount Vernon!

Homeschool Day Activities

On the Farm from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.:

  • Watch costumed historic trades interpreters produce 18th-century goods.
  • Learn about George Washington's innovative farming practices.
  • Visit a reconstructed cabin for an enslaved family.

Activity Stations in the Historic Area from 9:00a.m. - 3:30 p.m. 

  • Visit the Activity Stations on the North Lane to discover how seeds were collected and stored for Mount Vernon's gardens, and the importance of sundials. 
  • Pick up materials for projects you can do at home! 

Programs on the Bowling Green: 

  • 11:15a.m, 12:00p.m., & 1:30p.m. -  History in Motion: Planting Experiments on the Bowling Green 
    • Learn about how George Washington experimented with growing different types of seeds during this special, movement-based program. 
  • 10:30a.m. & 2:30p.m. - Music of the Revolution 
    • Join our resident fifer for a musical demonstration and discussion of fife & drum music, and its importance during the American Revolution!
