Betty, who was enslaved at George Washington's Mount Vernon, was described as being a "labouring woman" who worked at the Ferry Farm in 1786, though in 1799 she served as a cook. Betty had six children: Godfrey (b. 1774), Beck (b. 1775), Hanson (b. 1779), Lucretia (b. 1780), John (b. 1783), and Billy Langston (b. 1786). She and her children were owned by the estate of Daniel Parke Custis, Martha Washington's first husband.
