It is with profound sadness that we share that the Mount Vernon family is grieving the untimely death of Dr. Marla Holden in a tragic car accident on the evening of Friday, May 16.

Marla was a crucial member of our team as the Director of Project Management for the last six years, and she was an extraordinary human being. Her skill set was astounding. She had a long career in construction management and held a doctorate in construction management with an expertise in historic preservation. She came to us at a critical time to manage major multi-million-dollar, multi-year projects of the Mansion Revitalization and the new educational center exhibition, George Washington: A Revolutionary Life. She was the one who drove these landmark undertakings forward in an efficient manner.

Her personality was always encouraging and optimistic. She was a great friend to many here, and we are devastated by her passing. We are in communication with her husband, Wes, and her family to support them during this painful time and will relate any additional information regarding their celebration of her life.

This is a heartbreaking loss for our community. This is not an easy time. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family and all of us who are mourning Marla’s passing.
