The Making of This Historic Product
In 2011, George Washington's Distillery at Mount Vernon released its first aged rye whiskey. Over the intervening years, we have continued to age our whiskey longer and have moved from 25-gallon barrels to 53-gallon barrels with #3 char.
We offer fine whiskey made in the most traditional manner: Double distilled in our five wood-fired pot stills using 18th-century methods.

- All whiskey and brandy purchases must be made in person with a valid photo ID. Must be 21 years or older. No exceptions.
- You may access The Shops at Mount Vernon without an admission ticket. Parking is free.

- Virginia ABC law prevents us from shipping whiskey or brandy purchases outside of Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Holiday Closures
Distilled spirits cannot be purchased at The Shops at Mount Vernon or at the Gristmill Shop on Easter, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
According to Virginia law, distilled spirits may only be sold on-site when Virginia ABC retail stores are open. We are not permitted to sell distilled spirits at our retail stores when ABC stores are closed.
These closures do not apply to our online store whiskey.mountvernon.org. Our distilled spirits can be purchased online 365 days a year.
