Your safety and the safety of our staff is paramount as we open our doors again. There will be additional safety measures in place when you visit to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

  • Social Distancing: We ask guests to maintain 6-feet of social distancing. Markings and signs will assist with this effort.
  • Face Coverings: Guests and staff will be required to wear face coverings when indoors and outdoors when social distancing cannot be maintained.
  • Hand Sanitizer: We have installed hand sanitizer stations around the estate as well as signage promoting proper hygiene.
  • Enhanced Cleaning: Mount Vernon's staff will provide regular enhanced cleaning in high touch areas throughout the day.

To better prepare you for your visit we have created the following video that outlines some of our new procedures.

New Safety Protocols

Face Coverings

Our face coverings policy is in accordance with the requirements of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

We require that all guests wear face coverings:

  • upon arrival at the estate
  • indoors
  • in spaces where social distancing cannot be maintained

If guests are maintaining social distance while exploring the grounds, face coverings are not required.

Exceptions may be made for guests with medical and sensory issues.

Minors

Adults accompanying minors should use the adult’s best judgment with respect to placing face coverings on a minor between the ages of two and nine.

Adults accompanying minors between the ages of ten and eighteen should make reasonable efforts to prompt the minor to wear face coverings.

Bags

Mount Vernon is currently requiring all bags brought onto the estate to be clear plastic bags. This will allow our team to safely conduct bag checks during this period.

Clear plastic bags will be available for anyone who does not have one.

The following types of bags will be allowed inside the gates:

  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 16" x 16" x 8" OR
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
  • Small clutch bags, 4.5" x 6.5", with or without a handle or strap (these do not have to be clear)

Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items as well as items for infants and small children after inspection by a Mount Vernon staff person upon entry.

View our recommended options for clear bags.
