Join K-12 teachers from across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia to explore the many connections between STEAM and the history of George Washington's Mount Vernon.

Teachers who register must be planning to teach in a formal K-12 school environment in the greater Washington D.C. area for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year.

Explore Feeding the Continental Army With Our Resident Bread Baker

Join Mount Vernon's Resident Baker, Justin Cherry, and the Education team to learn about what it took to feed the Continental Army and what soldiers ate all day.

Examine Food, Labor & Survival in the Revolutionary War

During the workshop, participate in hands-on activities, analyze primary sources, explore digital resources, and discuss how to bring the STEAM work behind cooking during the revolutionary era into your classrooms. 

You will also be able to do some baking! 

Bring Historical Cooking & STEAM Concepts Into Your Classroom

Gain confidence in integrating history and STEAM concepts in an interdisciplinary context to support student learning while building a network of local peers. 

Attend with a teaching partner or collaborative team to design learning experiences to take back to your classroom, department, grade level, and/or school.

Registration Details

Who can register?

  • Teachers must plan to teach in a K-12 formal school setting in the greater Washington, D.C. area for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year.
  • You may only sign up for ONE spring workshop (February 24 or April 29) at this time.
    • The April 29 workshop theme will be the Spread of Independence, Printing the Declaration of Independence
  • Priority will be given to teachers and/or coordinators working in Title 1 schools.
  • We highly recommend attending with a teaching partner or collaborative team.
  • Each workshop is limited to 30 teachers.
  • A waitlist will be made available after registration meets full capacity.
