Dr. Timothy Anderson

Dr. Timothy Anderson is a historical geographer.   Much of his current research focuses on the historical settlement geography of the United States, especially with regard to the historical production of regional cultural landscapes and identities. 

He is also interested in the historical settlement geography of Ohio during the early National period, with an emphasis on subregional cultural landscape formation. 

He has also engaged in long-standing research involving the production of cultural landscapes associated with Germanic Diasporas, especially in North America and Europe.  

Dr. Frans H. Doppen

Dr. Frans H. Doppen, retired Professor of Social Studies Education at Ohio University, also served as the Chair of the Department of Teacher Education. 

Dr. Doppen taught middle and high school social studies for 19 years before completing his PhD. 

He is currently on the board of the Ohio Council for Social Studies and on the editorial board of the Great Lakes Social Studies Journal. Dr. Doppen has authored many book chapters and articles addressing local as well as global issues. He is the author of 'Richard L. Davis and the Color Line in Ohio Coal: A Hocking Valley Mine Labor Organizer, 1862-1900' and is currently working on a book on Isaiah S. Tuppins, the first elected Black mayor in Ohio. 

Jennifer Hinkle

Jennifer Hinkle, PhD, teaches sixth-grade Language Arts and Social Studies in Athens City School District in Athens, Ohio. 

She is an advisor for The AJD Club, an Athens City School District student history club. She formerly served as the Southeast Ohio Representative and now serves as the Intermediate School Representative to the Ohio Council for the Social Studies. 

Her current areas of interest include place-based teaching and literacy skills in the Social Studies. The topic of Jennifer’s dissertation (Injection Wells in Rural Ohio: A School-Community Study, Ohio University, 2021) centered on teaching controversial issues at the local level. 

Jessica Cyders

Jessica Cyders is the curator at the Southeast Ohio History Center in Athens, Ohio. Jessica works to preserve and catalog the more than 70,000 artifacts in the History Center's collection, designs and builds exhibits, and engages in educational outreach for students of all ages.

Her favorite part of her job is managing our professional internship program, which gives students from Ohio University and Hocking College the opportunity to develop hands-on curation skills. Jessica also hosts a series of 4 sourcing workshops with local 8th graders to teach students how to analyze primary and secondary sources.

Angela Hall

Angela Hall is a dedicated educator with over three decades of experience teaching 8th-grade social studies at Athens Middle School in Athens, Ohio. She has remained committed to fostering academic excellence, historical inquiry, and civic engagement among her students. 

Mrs. Hall actively collaborates with the Executive Director of the Southeastern Ohio History Center and local community historians to incorporate place-based learning and historical sourcing into her curriculum. 

Outside the classroom, Mrs. Hall founded and advises the Andrew Jackson Davison History Club (AJD Club), where she guides students in exploring and celebrating local history. The club partners with community stakeholders on heritage-focused projects that deepen students’ understanding of their regional identity.
