  • 6:45 pm: Caroline Branham – "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal…" This is the American promise, but it did not apply to everyone. Hear Caroline Branham, an enslaved chamber maid at Mount Vernon, recount the African American experience during the War for Independence.
  •
  • 7:30 pm: Martha Washington – Mrs. Washington will reflect on the difficulties of 8 years of conflict. During the War for Independence, Mrs. Washington joined her husband at winter encampments, where she cared for soldiers and produced uniforms. Hear her stories of that long struggle and the exciting moment when she and the General returned home in a new and independent country.
