Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pound small white onions or 1 bag frozen pearl onions
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/4 cup chicken stock
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Directions

    Peel fresh onions. Melt butter in saucepan; add the onions and all other ingredients. Cook slowly over a medium-low flame, turning onions occa sionally until tender. The liquid should be greatly reduced and beginning to thicken and turn slightly brown.

    Serves 4 to 6
