This original kitchen building at Mount Vernon has been restored and furnished to look like it did in 1799 when it was the kitchen for the mansion. There are three rooms on the first level. The largest room had a big fireplace and an oven. There was a scullery room where Lucy and others prepared food and washed dishes. There was also a larder room with a sunken floor designed to keep food cooler than in the other rooms.
