Infanta Eulalie of Spain (1864–1958) was a progressive Spanish royal, a daughter of Queen Isabella II and the aunt of King Alfonso.
She visited Mount Vernon in 1893, reported by Harrison Howell Dodge, Mount Vernon's long-time superintendent, in his 1932 book Mount Vernon, its owner and its story.
"…I well remember how perturbed her official escort—one of our prominent naval officers—was when I assured him it was not at all necessary for him to bring ashore a strong force of marines to guard Her Highness and how haughtily he spurned the use of our coach because it was too plebeian for a lady of such distinction.”
