George Washington's gristmill could produce 5,000 to 8,000 pounds of flour and cornmeal a day.
In 1799, his distillery produced nearly 11,000 gallons, making it one of the largest whiskey distilleries in America.
At our working mill, watch the water wheel turn the mighty gears as we grind Washington's grain. You can also tour a reconstructed working distillery that produces small batch spirits on site today.
We welcome groups to do the honors of raising the flag above Mount Vernon at the main gate as we open to the public.
To schedule a flag raising, please contact groups@mountvernon.org.
Pay your respects to our first President by arranging a special wreath-laying ceremony at his Tomb during normal public hours. To schedule, please contact groups@mountvernon.org.
Your group will receive a 10% discount at all retail locations when you select two or more options in addition to Estate admission. $10 vouchers are sold for $9 and $20 vouchers are available for $18.
Need to bring your own lunches or other large bags? We can secure it at The Gatehouse, located just outside the entrance to the Mount Vernon Inn Complex, for you.
Ask a Guest Services staff member at the Ford Orientation Center for assistance.
