Martha Washington was a prominent figure in 18th-century American society and played a vital role in George Washington's life and career. As the mistress of Mount Vernon, she oversaw the complex operations of the estate and its numerous enslaved and hired laborers.

Her unwavering support and resilience were crucial during the Revolutionary War, as she frequently joined George Washington at military encampments. Later, as the nation's first First Lady, she helped establish the social customs and expectations for future presidential spouses.
