Enjoy this modern brisket recipe.


  • 1 can consomme
  • 1 small bottle soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon liquid smoke
  • 1 or 2 cloves garlic, pressed
  • 4 or 5 pounds brisket
  • 1/2 cup bottled barbeque sauce


Combine all ingredients except barbecue sauce, pour over meat and marinate overnight. Cover with foil and bake in liquid for 4 hours for 4 pounds or 5 hours for 5 pounds at 300 degrees. Baste occasionally during baking, adding more consommè if necessary. Cover until last hour of total time and then remove the cover and pour 1/2 cup bottled barbecue sauce over brisket and increase oven temperature to 350 degrees.
