Watch the mighty gears turning and the stones grinding at Washington's reconstructed Gristmill, where Washington produced flour and cornmeal. Within our functioning reconstructed distillery, you can see where we make George Washington's whiskey. In 1799, it was one of the largest whiskey distilleries in America. The Distillery & Gristmill is located less than three miles from George Washington's Mount Vernon and free shuttles run continuously from 10 am–5 pm.

The LOVE letters were placed on the East Lawn before being moved to the Distillery & Gristmill site. Throughout the summer of 2019, the mobile “LOVEwork” will travel around Fairfax County to various attractions, representing the eclectic visitor experiences within the destination, before finding a permanent home at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton. The letters will be creatively “bedazzled” by several of the artists-in-residence at the Workhouse Arts Center, making the new Fairfax County “LOVEwork” sign a unique piece of art that visitors will enjoy for years to come.
