  • 2 1/2 cups green string beans
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon basil
  • Paprika
  • Directions

    Cook and carefully drain the green beans. Place in a greased glass 1-quart casserole baking dish and set aside. Melt the butter and thoroughly mix with the flour, salt, and milk. Add the basil. Cook and stir this mixture in a double boiler until thick and smooth. While still hot, stir in the Cheddar cheese. Then pour the cheese sauce over the green beans in the casserole. With a fork, mix lightly. Dust with the paprika. Bake in a 325-degree oven for about 30 minutes.

    Serves 4 to 6
