Enjoy this modern Date Nut Bread recipe.


  • 1 1/2 pounds dates, chopped fine
  • 3 cups boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons salad oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 pound brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla
  • 5 cups sifted flour
  • Directions

    Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Cover the dates with the boiling water and let stand until cool. Then add all remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly. Pour into non-stick loaf pans or spray regular pans with a vegetable spray. When pouring the mixture into pans, fill only 1/2 to 3/4 full. Bake for 1 hour. Bread will be lightly brown and cracked-looking on top. These loaves make lovely presents. They also freeze well.
