George Washington, Mount Vernon, and STEM Workshop

Local and nation-wide teachers are invited to join Mount Vernon staff and guest expert teachers for a FREE full day workshop focused on a holistic integration of George Washington and STEM at Mount Vernon. Learn about Washington’s world through private estate experiences and focused project-based learning activities that will support student learning in the upper elementary level classroom. Come learn with us, and be inspired by the richness of Mount Vernon’s STEM focused history.

Participation Requirements:

  • Priority will be give to teachers in a Title 1 school. 
  • You must currently teach in D.C., Maryland, Virginia, or in a school nationwide.
  • Teachers may only register for one of the workshop days.
  • The primary workshop audience is upper elementary (Grades 4-6); however, registration is open to all K-12 teachers

*Please note: Each workshop has a limited capacity. Registration does not equal attendance. Please look for an email one week prior to confirm your spot and provide more information. 

Substitute Funding:

We are able to provide funding to cover the costs of your absence from the classroom in the form of substitute funding. We will try our best to work with local district coordinators to get this set up; however, a stipend of $120 will be provided to you if we are not able to work with your district directly.

1:45-2:45 p.m. Choice Based Learning Experiences
3:00-3:30 p.m. Designing STEM Instruction Using George Washington's Mount Vernon
3:30-4:00 p.m. Evaluation of Learning 
4:15-5:00 p.m. Self- Guided Museum & Education Center Exploration (*optional)
