Wednesday, April 19, 1989

On Wednesday, April 19, 1989, President George H. W. Bush and the Crown Prince of Jordan, H. R. H. Prince Muhammed bin Talal visited Mount Vernon, accompanied by the Regent, Mrs. Robert Channing Seamans Jr.

The red devon cattle in the north field hid among the bushes from the four king-sized presidential helicopters as President Bush and his party arrived.

Their tour of the Mansion was a fast-paced one, lasting less than 15 minutes, before the presidential party hurried down the south lane to two waiting yachts on the Potomac River. A musical salute by the U. S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps provided a fitting conclusion to the President's visit.
