Visited Mount Vernon as Prince of Wales; arrived “very informally” by automobile, with a group which included American Vice President Marshall. The Prince planted a small English yew tree near the Tomb. The estate was open to the public the day of the visit, but the Mount Vernon guard force was augmented with “a detail of U.S. Marines”.
