George Washington’s Mount Vernon provides a picturesque setting for artists to pursue their craft, and we are pleased to make the grounds available for these activities whenever possible.

However, to provide a positive guest experience for all of Mount Vernon’s guests, we ask visiting artists to adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. Advance permission is required so we can alert our security team and staff. Notice must be emailed to tickets@mountvernon.org at least 24 hours in advance of the visit.

  2. Artists’ visits are welcome during regular daytime hours only. We may not be able to accommodate visits on high visitation days, during special events, or on holidays. Artists’ visits are not permitted during evening events. Mount Vernon reserves the right to end or cancel an artist’s visit at any time.

  3. All artists must purchase a grounds pass admission ticket or be a member to enter the estate.

  4. All bags and supplies are subject to inspection - no spray or aerosol paints are permitted.

  5. Painting or drawing is not permitted inside or near the mansion (including the piazza), other historic structures, exhibit galleries, or theaters.

  6. Paint and related supplies are not allowed inside the mansion, other historic structures, exhibit galleries, or theatres.

  7. Moving objects or asking guests or staff to move is prohibited. Blocking entrances, exits, or pathways is also prohibited.
