In 2024, the GWPL has special travel fellowship funds available for scholars who are interested in either presenting at or have a reason to attend and participate in one of the following conferences AMERICA2026.edu is hosting. Applicants will need to submit a proposed budget for their travel.

Conferences

"New Perspectives on French and American Revolutionary Constitutions," hosted in Normandy France, on May 16-17, 2024. This conference aims to provide new perspectives on Western constitutions (particularly French and American), highlighting points of convergence and contrasts, and to study recent debates on the strengths and weaknesses of constitutionalism in the face of unprecedented challenges in the United States and France.

  • Only accepting proposals for attendees.
  • Application is on a rolling basis and should be submitted as soon as possible. Decisions will be made on a rolling basis. All applications must be submitted by March 15, 2024.

"American Politics and the Memory of the Revolution (18th-21st centuries)," hosted in Toulouse, France, on November 13-14, 2024. This conference aims to study the many echoes of the Revolution in today’s political and intellectual debates in the US, and to examine the history of European critical writing on the Revolution from the turn of the 19th century and place it in conversation with recent and contemporary critiques of the colonial and imperial nature of the United States.

  • Accepting paper proposals for those studying the commemoration of events related to the American Revolution and their influence on politics and politics’ influence on these commemorations, and accepting proposals for attendees.
  • Application is on a rolling basis and should be submitted as soon as possible. Decisions will be made on a rolling basis. All applications must be submitted by August 30, 2024.

Application Requirements

  • Those wishing to attend a conference as a participant must provide a brief 750-word statement outlining how the conference’s aims and themes are relevant to their own work, along with a CV to gwfellows@mountvernon.org.
  • Applicants should submit a proposed travel budget. While GWPL aims to cover the complete costs of travel, unexpected demand for the program may only allow the GWPL to provide a significant cost offset, especially for those only attending the proceedings.
  • All funded attendees must commit to being active participants throughout the conference’s proceedings. Funding priority will be given to those with accepted papers, though the GWPL anticipates being able to fund attendees as well and encourages applications from both groups.
