Washington's Irish Performance at George Washington's Mount Vernon

Friday, March 20

MOUNT VERNON, VA – In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, George Washington’s Mount Vernon invites guests to explore the history related to the Irish during the Revolutionary War during a performance by Derek Warfield & The Young Wolfe Tones. A reception featuring Irish food will take place in the Vaughn Lobby following this performance and cultural music discussion. Tickets are $75 per person and are now available at mountvernon.org/irish. The performance will take place in the Robert H. and Clarice Smith Auditorium.

Derek Warfield was a founding member and long-serving front man of the legendary Wolfe Tones, named after the Irish patriot Theobald Wolfe Tone, one of the leaders of the Irish Rebellion of 1798 and regarded as the father of Irish republicanism.  Founded in the early 1960s, the Wolfe Tones band incorporates traditional Irish music into their songs promoting Irish independence.  Warfield will share through story and musical performance his research studying Irish music and songs popular in the generations close to the events of the American Revolution.
