Statement from the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association about Mary Higgins Clark

The Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association mourns the passing of best-selling author and long-time friend of Mount Vernon, Mary Higgins Clark. She began her career writing four-minute biographical radio programs in a series entitled “Portrait of a Patriot.” The series would go on to produce 65 episodes, and her ability to combine storytelling with history eventually led her to publish her first fictional account of the relationship between George and Martha Washington, entitled "Aspire to the Heavens."

Mary Higgins Clark was a great friend to the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association. We are deeply saddened to hear of her passing and send prayers from Mount Vernon to her family and friends.
