Throughout the years Cokie Roberts was a tireless supporter of the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association and historic Mount Vernon. As the author of “Founding Mothers,” Roberts stressed the importance and role of women in the founding era well before others followed her example.
Roberts was passionate about education. Despite her busy schedule, the award-winning journalist made dozens of trips to Mount Vernon to speak with hundreds of educators from across the country. The staff and board of the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association will miss Cokie, and we are grateful for the many contributions that she made to promote the education of early American history. During Cokie’s time here at Mount Vernon, we were able to capture her thoughts about the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association and the Washingtons.
