"Common patties" were a meat pastry commonly eaten in colonial America.
INGREDIENTS
Ground beef or veal
Bacon
Salt
Pepper
Nutmeg
Parsley
Thyme
Pastry dough
DIRECTIONS
1.Take some ground meat (veal, beef etc.) and some boiled ham or bacon chopped very fine, season with salt, pepper, grated nutmeg, and a small quantity of parsley and thyme minced very fine. Cook these in a skillet.
2. Take pastry dough and roll it out, then cut into small squares.
3. Fill with meat filling, close pastry around meat filling and crimp edges together.
4. Place in greased pie pan or baking dish.
5. Bake in hot oven until golden brown approximately 20-25 minutes.
