Building a NEW Barn at Mount Vernon

1,658 views April 24, 2019
The livestock facilities at George Washington's Mount Vernon required necessary updates to support our growing heritage breed program. The old barn facility had been expanded and repaired with time but is over 20 years old. We care for more than 100 animals, and our visitors see many of the same breeds that were common here some two centuries ago. By reconstructing our livestock structure, we can now shelter both our animals and staff members in a more efficient and safe manner, reflecting the best practices for which George Washington himself would have striven.
