Celebrate Washington's Birthday

Honor our first president with the Presidential Tribute at George Washington's Tomb at 10 a.m.

At 10:30 a.m., witness the official observance ceremony of George Washington's birthday on the bowling green, followed by a special military demonstration.

Meet General Washington

Visit the Interpretive Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. to meet General Washington as he shares stories from his life and answers questions from guests.

Hear Music of the Revolution

Join our resident fifer for a musical demonstration and discussion of fife & drum music, and its importance during the American Revolution at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on the bowling green.

Visit the Washington Library Open House

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., tour the George Washington Presidential Library, which holds more than 100 volumes from George Washington's personal library. Hear talks from Mount Vernon staff and learn about the Washington Library's podcasts and digital history projects.

Build a Birthday Card for George Washington

From 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., create your own birthday card for George Washington on the bowling green.

Witness a Army Caisson Training Demonstration

Throughout the day, visit the 12-acre field to meet The Caisson Detachment of the U.S. Army’s 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard). Special performances will be held at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

All day, enjoy concessions for purchase from Half Crown Bakehouse on the 12-acre field.

Take an Exclusive Mansion Tour

Admission tickets will be distributed on-site upon arrival; a limited number of tickets are available.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tour the first floor of the Mansion while preservation work is ongoing. Experience the architecture of the Mansion as never before and hear from preservation and interpretive staff as you walk through rooms normally closed to the public.

Mansion tours are timed. 

Mansion tour tickets will be distributed first come, first serve. Depending on the number of guests, there may be a 2-3 hour delay between your arrival and your Mansion tour time. Arrive early to receive the earliest tour times.
