Mount Vernon has the largest number of treasures from George Washington’s life in the nation. Although a variety of his and Martha’s belongings were dispersed after their deaths, Mount Vernon has brought back and excavated thousands of original artifacts, many of which are on display throughout the Mansion as well as the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center. From Washington’s dentures to his shoe buckles, the first president’s belongings range from the practical to the elegant to the quixotic.
