Watch Fireworks Over the Potomac River
Guests can photograph this sensational display as fireworks soar over the Mansion.
Fireworks over the Potomac will begin at approximately 9:15 p.m.
Meet George Washington
Join General Washington inside the Interpretive Center for a meet-and-greet. Then hear his special remarks at the Piazza as he kicks off the fireworks extravaganza.
Attend a Wreath Laying at the Washington Tomb
Walk down to visit the Washington Tomb for a special wreath-laying; this event is one of the few times this area is open in the evening.
Wreath laying is offered at 6:45, 7:15, 7:45, and 8:15 p.m.
Hear Live Musical Performances
On June 27 and 28, listen to a concert by the National Concert Band on the south lawn from 7:45 p.m. to 9:10 p.m.
The Fifes and Drums of York Town will perform on June 27 on the bowling green at 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m., and 7:15 p.m.
Experience 18th-Century Fun & Entertainment
From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the bowling green, you can experience a variety of 18th-century activities.
- Enjoy an "Iced Cream" demonstration, where Mount Vernon's Historic Trades team will create ice cream with simple ingredients from scratch.
- Learn popular dance styles by joining in on dancing demonstrations.
- See blacksmiths forging tools, utensils, and hardware in the historic area.
- Play tavern and lawn games, like Shut the Box, Captains Mistress, Wood Cup & Ball, Game of Graces, bowling, and hoops.
Play "I Spy" and Search for General Washington
Play "I Spy General George Washington." Search for General Washington, hidden around the estate, and see how many you can find!
Explore Stories That Shaped a Nation at the Museum
Take a journey through our exhibit, Mount Vernon: The Story of an American Icon, and step into the shoes of the first president, viewing the fascinating array of Mount Vernon artifacts on display.
Visit The Shops & Concessions
Grab a commemorative keepsake at The Shops at Mount Vernon, which will be open until 7 p.m.
Concessions will be available for purchase. Outside food is not permitted on the estate.
Seating
Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or small lawn chair to sit on the east lawn. Seating is not provided.
Wagons/carts, oversized chairs, tents, tables, pop-ups, grills, beach or free-standing umbrellas, coolers, and glass containers are not permitted.
All items and bags will be subject to search upon entrance.
