This is a contemporary 1760 copy of the original settlement of the account of Clifton's Affair, also dated August 1760. It is in the handwriting of George Washington and is signed by the commissioners George William Fairfax, Charles Green, and John West Junior. The document details money received, paid, and in hand as a consequence of their actions in the suit of Clifton vs. Carroll and others regarding the distribution of proceeds from an auction of land to the highest bidder, George Washington.
