Spend a Quiet Morning Exploring Mount Vernon

We've prepared some materials that may help your family get ready for a visit.

Upon arrival, guests will receive a sensory bag (while supplies last.)

Look for our Family Hub for hands-on learning opportunities about archaeology at Mount Vernon.

Explore the Mansion with a special tactile tour.

From 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., a quiet, air-conditioned space is available as a “take a break” room. Ask a staff member to access the “take a break” room.

Open-House Mansion Tours

Open-house style Mansion tours will be available, where staff will answer questions, and visitors can touch certain objects as directed by staff. Visitors are welcome to explore at their own pace.

To prepare for the visit, you can tour the Mansion virtually.

Accessibility

Although the 18th-century pathways in the historic area can be uneven, there is an accessible path linking the Mansion, Ford Orientation Center, and the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center.

Only the first floor of the Mansion is wheelchair accessible.

All program locations will be available via accessible paths.

It is a 0.3 mile distance from the admission counter to the Mansion.

Standard, non-motorized wheelchairs and wheeled walkers are available free of charge inside the Ford Orientation Center on a first-come, first served basis.
