Martha Washington served as the nation's first first lady and spent about half of the Revolutionary War at the front. She helped manage and run her husbands' estates. She raised her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and for almost 40 years she was George Washington's "worthy partner."

In honor of her 288th birthday, wish the former First Lady a happy birthday at her beloved home! Lady Washington will greet guests and pose for photos on the Mansion’s piazza.

Naturalization Ceremonies

Lady Washington will attend two naturalization ceremonies in honor of her birthday. At 11am, 39 children will become citizens during a ceremony in the upper garden. A ceremony for 100 adults begins at 1:30pm on the east lawn.
