About the Distillery
George Washington once ran the largest whiskey distillery in America, producing rye whiskey and brandies at his Mount Vernon estate. He is the only one of our founding fathers to have owned and operated a commercial distillery. Washington was intrigued by the profit potential that a distillery might bring in, despite having no prior experience in distilling.
Mount Vernon honors George Washington’s legacy and the rich tradition of distilled spirits in Virginia at this first-ever whiskey festival.
