Drawing Lines, Dividing Democracy
Join the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy and the Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington for the annual George Washington Leadership Lecture. Established through a generous gift by Maribeth Borthwick '73, who also serves as the Vice Regent for California of the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, this annual lecture explores the Father of Our Country's lifelong accomplishments, providing a better understanding of him as a man, as well as his remarkable leadership, professional achievements and lasting legacy.
In George Washington’s Farewell Address in 1796, he warned of the inherent dangers that threatened to destroy the Union: regionalism, partisanship, and foreign entanglements. These issues have deep roots in our nation’s early years and remain critical today. This fall, our annual lecture will consider the adverse impacts of gerrymandering on the health and vitality of our nation and will feature a conversation with Congressman Alan Lowenthal and Professor David Sloane, followed by a panel discussion exploring gerrymandering issues and solutions.
