• 5 egg whites
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar (orange mint is good)
  • Sliced Strawberries, Bananas or crushed pineapple
  • Few drops lemon juice
  • Whipped cream
  • Directions

    The success of the receipt depends upon the proper beating of egg whites and the slow addition of sugar. Beat egg whites with egg beater and when almost stiff start using wire whisk. Add sugar gradually a tablespoon at a time and continue beating until sugar is dissolved. When mixture is stiff, add vanilla and vinegar slowly. Put in 10-inch buttered pie plate and bake at 275 degrees for 1 hour. Make mixture higher around edges so you can fill center with sliced bananas, strawberries or crushed pineapple, which have been sprinkled with a few drops of lemon juice. Cover with whipped cream seasoned with a little vanilla.

    Serves 6 to 8
