• 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups very hot (not boiling) water
  • 1 ounce lemon juice
  • 6 stalks mint
  • 2 1/2 ounces gin, rum or vodka
  • Directions

Make a simple syrup by placing 2 cups of sugar in a quart bottle and pouring over it 2 cups of very hot (not boiling) water. Cap and shake until sugar is dissolved. In 10-ounce highball glass, place 1/2 ounce syrup, 1 ounce lemon juice and crushed mint leaves. Fill glass with crushed ice and add 2 1/2 ounces of gin, ruin or vodka. Stir well before serving. Simple syrup keeps well for several days in the refrigerator.
