• 1 cup dry white wine (preferably Rhine)
  • 1 clove garlic, whole, peeled
  • 1 pound Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons flour
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Nutmeg
  • 3 teaspoons Kirsch
  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into bite-size pieces
  • Directions

    In a double boiler heat wine with garlic, until hot. Remove garlic. Dredge cheese with flour. Add cheese to wine, a hanful at a time, stirring after each addition until cheese is melted. Season and add Kirsch. Place in a chafing dish and serve with a basket of bread.
