There is no person who contributed more to the founding of our country than George Washington, and there is no place where the stories of his life and legacies are better told than at Mount Vernon, his beloved home. It is here that Washington’s autobiography and American identity converge, and where those coming to deepen their connection to our nation’s origins will leave inspired by our extensive programs, informative exhibits, and painstakingly preserved historic areas.
Maintained by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, a private, non-profit organization, Mount Vernon does not accept any government funding. We rely on the generosity of private donors to preserve, restore, and manage this estate and to educate visitors throughout the world about our nation’s first president.
This philanthropy has always played a crucial role in sustaining Mount Vernon. Whether through landmark preservation projects that are safeguarding the Mansion, educational resources that invite exploration into Washington’s world, or the creation of our “George Washington and the Pursuit of Religious Freedom” film, philanthropy makes these efforts and others possible. Gifts, like the one made in your honor or in memory of your loved one, not only keep Washington’s legacy alive but also ensure that future generations can be informed and inspired by his examples of character and leadership.
If you feel moved to support the mission of Mount Vernon, we would be grateful for your participation.
Every gift, no matter the size, helps us continue this important work.
