Join the Archaeologists!

Volunteers and interns have helped Mount Vernon's archaeologists since 1987, donating more than 50,000 hours towards researching and restoring the estate.

To participate as an intern, you should be enrolled in a college or graduate program studying archaeology, anthropology, museum studies, historic preservation, history or a related field.  We also accept recent graduates as interns and those starting out in our profession.

In 2013, we are offering a for-credit Field School in Historic Preservation through the University of Maryland.  The class is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.

Don't live near Mount Vernon?  No problem!  We seek history lovers with an attention to detail to help transcribe 18th-century store accounts.  Learn more about this innovative E-tern experience!

Unfortunately, we offer no lodging or stipends, and cannot pay any expenses.
