Colonel Dodge recalled the following about his visit:

“Red Tomahawk at the time of his visit was eighty-nine years old and in vigorous health. He was attired in gorgeous costume. To give an idea of the full gorgeousness of it, I mention that he was offered $5,000 for the sables he wore, which he smilingly refused.”
