“The love of my country will be the ruling influence of my conduct,” proclaimed George Washington shortly after becoming the nation’s first president in 1789. After more than two hundred years, these words still ring true. Washington stands alone as our country’s model citizen – intelligent, loyal, honest, patriotic, selfless. He inspires us to participate in the democratic process and to take pride in our unique heritage. Remembering and admiring George Washington enables us to understand our past and appreciate the value and pricipals of being an American.
Mount Vernon is taking a leading role in restoring George Washington to national prominence – an ambitious goal embraced by no other organization. Through a vast array of educational programs linking students, educators, and scholars across the country, Washington will once again become “first in the hearts of his countrymen.”
Sharing George Washington’s legacy of character and leadership with millions every year is no easy challenge, and one that requires the generous support of Americans who are willing to go above and beyond by lending their time and talent to a variety of special projects including the restoration of historic buildings and precious collections, the development of broad-based educational programs, and continued research into the life and times of George Washington. These leadership gifts provide special rewards to donors.
The Mount Vernon One Hundred is extended to individuals who make annual gifts of cash, securities, or personal property valued at $5,000 to $9,999. This "members only" program offers truly unique opportunities to participate in some of Mount Vernon's most prestigious programs.
