Mount Vernon Halcyon Days Enamel Boxes
Halcyon Days Enamels are handcrafted in Bilston, England using 18th-century techniques. Copper pieces are crafted on hand-operated presses. Lids and bases are acid washed to prepare the copper to be coated by enamel. Four layers of enamel solution, created from tiny glass particles, are applied to each lid and base. The pieces are fired at 800 degrees Celsius for seven minutes between each enamel application. Pieces undergo six separate inspections to ensure quality standards are met. Once the enameling process is complete, artists hand-paint the colorful designs.
More than 5,000 designs have been created since 1969. Inspiration for the design of the Mount Vernon boxes comes from the 1792 West Front painting attributed to Edward Savage.
Size of box approximately 2” long x 1 ¾” wide x 1” deep.
Quote inside: First in war, first in peace and first in the hearts of his countrymen.
Available in three colors: Red, Green, and Black.
